Leadership

Make the challenge clear. Make the next move possible.

My approach is people-first and outcomes-minded: listen closely, bring the right voices together and turn shared understanding into useful action.

A repeatable rhythm

Five moves that help a group move.

Not a rigid formula - a way to keep people, purpose and progress in the same frame.

  1. 01

    Listen

Start with the people closest to the work and make the real challenge safe to name.

  2. 02

    Clarify

Separate the important signal from the noise and agree what a useful outcome would look like.

  3. 03

    Convene

Bring the right mix of experience, authority and fresh perspective into the same conversation.

  4. 04

    Act

Turn discussion into a practical next move with clear ownership and enough momentum to begin.

  5. 05

    Learn

Notice what changed, share the learning and improve the next cycle rather than defending the first plan.

01

Stronger organisations

Keep what matters. Change what no longer serves.

Renewal works best when it is connected to purpose, not fashion. I help groups distinguish the habits that hold their identity from the habits that simply feel familiar.

  • Build belonging into the member or employee experience.
  • Turn strategy into visible choices and practical ownership.
  • Create change with people early enough for it to become shared.
02

Emerging leaders

Invite people to shape the work, not just witness it.

Development becomes real when someone is trusted with meaningful contribution, supported to make judgement calls and given useful feedback after the moment.

That interest reaches back to my Political Science Honours research into the engagement of Year 12 students: participation becomes real when people have both a voice and a meaningful role.

  • Design learning around decisions, practice and reflection.
  • Make room for younger and newer voices in consequential conversations.
  • Mentor without making a copy of yourself.
03

Community connection

Start with the outcome. Build the coalition around it.

Enduring community work is rarely delivered by one organisation. It depends on trust, useful roles, honest expectations and a shared view of the difference the work should make.

  • Convene across institutional boundaries.
  • Translate different interests into a workable common purpose.
  • Measure progress by change created, not activity completed.

Where the thinking comes from

Practice before prescription.

Ideas are more useful when they have met the real world.

Club and district

Turning belonging into a growth strategy

Membership leadership, club presidency and helping charter the Rotary Club of Lightsview have reinforced a simple truth: people stay where they can contribute, connect and see that their time matters.

Youth and learning

Giving emerging leaders real room

Seven years leading District Youth Service and 10 years on the District Learning and Development Committee, including three as Chair, have shaped a preference for active learning, early responsibility and conversations that lead to a decision.

Public service

Finding a path through complexity

Work across strategy, governance, regional development and emergency response has demanded clear advice, thoughtful stakeholder engagement and practical coordination under pressure.

Speaking and facilitation

Useful provocations for teams and communities.

Each theme can become a keynote, workshop or facilitated working conversation.

Discuss an event
01

Building clubs people want to join

Belonging, flexibility, meaningful contribution and the habits that turn a first visit into a lasting connection.

02

Leading change without losing people

How to surface resistance, protect what matters and create enough shared ownership for change to hold.

03

Making room for emerging leaders

Moving beyond symbolic inclusion so younger and newer voices can shape decisions, not simply attend them.

04

From activity to lasting impact

Choosing work by the difference it creates, building partnerships around outcomes and learning from delivery.

Keep the conversation going

Have a challenge worth thinking through together?

Speaking, club renewal, youth leadership, membership, civic partnerships - or a good idea that needs the right people around it.
